Career and Transitional Coaching

Hi! My name is Gabriele. I’m a professor and coach helping high school, college, and graduate students—and educators—live their calling. I’m currently earning my coaching certification through the International Coaching Federation. This training dovetails with my over twenty years’ experience teaching the humanities.

I’ve lived through three major vocational transitions. I explored every major possible, from horticulture to journalism to Japanese, before I found myself. I studied abroad in universities in Japan, Denmark, and the United States. And during my doctorate, I struggled deciding whether I could find a home in academia.

These experiences are the roots of my passions and my research: helping students find their vocations, supporting wellness, living abroad, navigating intercultural differences, home and belonging.

Although I’ve lived in the states for 20 years, I’m still a German at heart. I enjoy reading good books, running in nature, crocheting toys for my two sons, experimenting in the kitchen, and trying out new hikes with my family.

I look forward to meeting you!

Current Employer: Carnegie Mellon University
Specialties: Vocational coaching for emerging adults: Working with teens and young adults is deeply rewarding because I know what it’s like to feel lost. I regularly teach university courses on vocational development focusing on defining purpose, career options, and networking. My coaching will support you on your journey toward purpose, happiness, and fulfillment. Intercultural coaching for study abroad: Studying abroad is daunting on so many levels: language barriers, cultural differences, finding programs, application difficulties, financial planning, to name a few. As someone who has studied abroad three times, I can coach you through these challenges. Transition coaching for academics: Doctoral programs rarely prepare students for careers outside academia. So for Ph.D. students and faculty members, leaving academia can be scary and confusing. I can help you see possibilities, recognize strengths, and plan for a fulfilling, sustainable career. Career coaching for working moms: For stay-at-home moms, entering or reentering the workforce presents unique challenges. As a mom of two boys, I can help you succeed at work and home. Classroom coaching for collegiate educators: An educator of more than twenty years, I know how fulfilling and difficult teaching is. I’m an award-winning teacher who has published on innovative teaching and curriculum development. If you are facing classroom challenges or looking to refresh your approach, I can help.
